Faculty Member, School of Film and Television Studies
Reader in Television
About
I studied for my BA in English and Media Studies at the University of Sussex, and then went on to do an MA in Film at the University of Southampton. I stayed at Southampton to undertake my PhD, on the 1950s British cinema programme, which I completed in 2001, and then I began my first full-time position at Southampton Institute the same year (on the Media and Cultural Studies Degree). I then moved to the University of Kent in 2004, teaching television with the Film Studies Department, before I took up the position of Reader in Television at the University of East Anglia in 2007.
My key research interests are in popular TV genres, British TV history, Reality TV, and celebrity culture. I also co-editor the Routledge journal 'Celebrity Studies'.
