My current research focuses on American procedural crime drama of the last five years using gender as a lens through which to rethink television genre studies with an aim to create a robust framework that will be applicable outside of the crime genre. The thesis is comprised of the analysis of six popular but largely unstudied shows: Bones, Lie to Me, The Mentalist, Psych, The Ghost Whisperer and Medium, looking at issues from the use of the Gothic to the problematic concept of truth invoked in the crime drama.
My other research interests include further areas of US TV, especially the teen drama. I'm currently starting work researching a subset of the Glee fandom.
